Hoboken Connect, in One Paragraph
Hoboken Connect is the joint NJ Transit–developer plan remaking the blocks around the terminal: restoration of the historic buildings (including the long-shuttered Lackawanna ferry terminal spaces), a rebuilt bus terminal, a new public plaza on Hudson Place, and new residential and office towers on the land side. For riders it means a steadily improving terminal wrapped in several years of construction fencing — worth knowing about before you sprint for a connection through a block that moved since your last visit.
The upside is already visible: the plaza is open, the bus operation is being modernized, and the grandest unused rooms in the building are being brought back to life. Hudson Place plaza opens
June 2026The new public plaza on Hudson Place — the first completed phase of the Hoboken Connect redevelopment — opened in June 2026, reworking the block between the terminal entrance and the PATH station into a pedestrian-first space.
Rebuilt bus terminal

PATH fare rises to $3.25; weekend WTC service returns
May 2026PATH's single-ride fare rose to a flat $3.25 in May 2026. The same service plan restored weekend Hoboken–World Trade Center service for the first time since 2001 (every 20 minutes, roughly 10 a.m.–9 p.m.) and boosted weekday rush-hour Hoboken–WTC service to every 6 minutes.
Lackawanna Ferry Terminal restoration
OngoingNJ Transit is restoring roughly 50,000 square feet of the historic ferry terminal building — the second floor is being converted into an events venue, and the agency is seeking a marquee tenant for the space.
Hoboken Connect construction
OngoingThe wider Hoboken Connect project continues around the terminal: the 27-story 'Charlie' residential building (386 units, 78 affordable) has broken ground on Observer Highway, with an office tower planned. Expect construction fencing and shifted pedestrian paths around the terminal through the late 2020s.
What It Means for Your Trip
- Bus riders: stops and boarding slips have shifted during the bus terminal rebuild. Trust the signs on Hudson Place over memory, and see the bus guide for routes.
- PATH riders: the 2026 service plan was good news — weekend Hoboken–World Trade Center trains are back for the first time since 2001, with more frequent weekday rush service. Fares and patterns are in the PATH guide.
- Ferry riders: unaffected day to day — the NY Waterway slips operate normally while restoration continues elsewhere in the ferry terminal building.
- Everyone on foot: paths around the north and west sides of the complex keep moving as construction phases change. Add a few minutes to tight connections, especially if you need step-free routes.
